{"id":129,"date":"2004-09-28T22:10:25","date_gmt":"2004-09-29T02:10:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scaredpoet.com\/wordpress\/?p=129"},"modified":"2004-09-28T22:30:31","modified_gmt":"2004-09-29T02:30:31","slug":"the-peanut-farmer-vs-the-cokehead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scaredpoet.com\/blog\/?p=129","title":{"rendered":"The Peanut Farmer vs. the Cokehead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Looks like it takes a former president to point out the flaws in the efforts to get Florida back in the game with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalnow.com\/servlet\/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_BasicArticle&#038;c=MGArticle&#038;cid=1031778205995&#038;path=!nationworld&#038;s=1037645509161\">equitable and fair elections<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;The disturbing fact is that a repetition of the problems of 2000 now seems likely,&#8221; Carter wrote in The Washington Post. He called Florida election officials &#8220;highly partisan&#8221; in favor of Republican President Bush and charged them with &#8220;brazenly violating&#8221; basic tenets of fair, unbiased and trustworthy elections.<\/p>\n<p>Florida officials said they were stunned by the tone and sweep of Carter&#8217;s criticism and that Carter had erred in his characterization of the state&#8217;s election process. Others said that Carter&#8217;s staunchly partisan work on behalf of John Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, called his criticism into question.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Of course Florida election officials would be stunned.  It&#8217;s not like they&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sptimes.com\/2004\/09\/26\/Perspective\/_Take_a_deep_breath__.shtml\">done anything to disenfranchise minority voters<\/a> who are likely to vote Democrat.
