\nReligious nut Pat Robertson<\/a> is doing… well, I really don’t know what<\/em> he’s doing, but he appears to be backing away from the notion that he stood by Bush at the start of hostilities in Iraq. I say “hostilities” because, well, I’m old school and still think that a war shouldn’t be declared unless Congress says it’s a way, y’know?<\/p>\n

At any rate, he claims he spoke with God, and tried to warn Bush about the casualties ahead. And, true to form (see yesterday’s article), Bush denied there would be any<\/a>:<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (CNN) — The founder of the U.S. Christian Coalition said Tuesday he told President George W. Bush before the invasion of Iraq that he should prepare Americans for the likelihood of casualties, but the president told him, “We’re not going to have any casualties.”<\/p>\n

Pat Robertson, an ardent Bush supporter, said he had that conversation with the president in Nashville, Tennessee, before the March 2003 invasion U.S.-led invasion of Iraq. He described Bush in the meeting as “the most self-assured man I’ve ever met in my life.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

After this reading this story, I’m downright confused. For an avid Bush supporter, what benefit is there to ol’ Pat telling a story like this now, just days before the election? The way I see it, the only reasonable objective to telling such a story (and to wait till RIGHT NOW to say anything about as opposed to, ohhhh, before the “war” started?<\/em>), is to make Bush look like an ass. Has Pat suddenly decided he wants to run for President? Again?<\/p>\n

I also wonder why, when God was having this chummy fireside chat with our perfectly sane<\/em> televangelist, he didn’t also mention – you know, just as an aside – that this whole WMD thing wouldn’t pan out and we wouldn’t find any chemical, biological or nuclear weapons, thus negating the supposed premise for this “war.” I’m fairly certain God doesn’t like for his children to fight amongst themselves, and go off killing each other for something that simply doesn’t exist. Thus it strikes me as odd that “there will be many casualties” wasn’t appended with “and you won’t find any of that funky stuff Bush thinks Saddam has.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
