{"id":366,"date":"2005-05-13T09:50:13","date_gmt":"2005-05-13T13:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scaredpoet.com\/wordpress\/?p=366"},"modified":"2005-05-13T10:10:54","modified_gmt":"2005-05-13T14:10:54","slug":"oh-and-macs-too","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scaredpoet.com\/blog\/?p=366","title":{"rendered":"Oh, and Macs too&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apple users: before you snicker about the Intel <a href=\"http:\/\/kerneltrap.org\/node\/5103\">Hyper-Threading vulnerability<\/a>, take note: the Dashboard in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\">Tiger<\/a> apparently has<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/news\/mac\/0,2125,67484,00.html\"> its own glaring security hole<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A growing number of Mac experts are sounding the alarm over the dangers of widgets &#8212; which can carry Unix commands that could be run invisibly from within a widget.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s really just wrong and stupid of (Apple) to not give a regular user a way to take widgets out of Dashboard,&#8221; said Stephan Meyers, an unemployed artist and developer who was one of the first to publicize the hole. &#8220;It just flat-out says you cannot remove a widget from Dashboard. That&#8217;s just dumb.&#8221; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So today, on Friday the 13th no less, we all have issues to worry about, regardless of operating system we use.
