{"id":376,"date":"2005-05-24T17:21:56","date_gmt":"2005-05-24T21:21:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scaredpoet.com\/wordpress\/?p=376"},"modified":"2005-05-24T16:22:33","modified_gmt":"2005-05-24T20:22:33","slug":"and-now-theres-ransomware","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/scaredpoet.com\/blog\/?p=376","title":{"rendered":"And now there&#8217;s &#8220;RansomWare&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a way, I&#8217;m almost surprised hackers didn&#8217;t think of this before, but now that it is exists, I loathe its development&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2005\/TECH\/internet\/05\/24\/internet.ransom.ap\/index.html\">Ransomware<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Security researchers at San Diego-based <a href=\"http:\/\/ww2.websense.com\/global\/en\/\">Websense Inc.<\/a> uncovered the unusual extortion plot when a corporate customer they would not identify fell victim to the infection, which encrypted files that included documents, photographs and spreadsheets.<\/p>\n<p>A ransom note left behind included an e-mail address, and the attacker using the address later demanded $200 for the digital keys to unlock the files.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to be interesting to see if this really catches on.
