However, there was no al Qaeda in Iraq either, until the administration decided to <em>claim<\/em> that there was, invaded, and then al Qaeda said &#8220;hey, that&#8217;s a good idea&#8230;&#8221; and set up a network there.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rotten.com\/library\/bio\/usa\/donald-rumsfeld\/\">Rummy<\/a> also conveniently forgets that the whole reason for al Qaeda&#8217;s existence originally was because the US military has this nasty habit of showing up somewhere to &#8220;help&#8221; a region, and then we never seem to want to leave when the job is done.  Bin Laden was pissed because our troops set up camp in Saudi Arabia for the first Gulf War, and decided it was too cozy to leave once the war was over.  See, conservative Muslims are historically very touchy about non-Muslim peoples occupying their land.  <\/p>\n<p>I wouldn&#8217;t ever dream of defending al Qaeda&#8217;s motives, however we weren&#8217;t exactly minding our own business when they sprang up, and it&#8217;s important to remember that.
