Let me start off this rant by saying this much: I work in retail. I am instructed, by my bosses, to say “Happy Holidays” versus, say, “Merry Christmas.” Seeing how they are my higher ups and, in fact, can fire my ass, I’m obliged to listen to what they say. After all, I already basically spend the entire time I’m there socializing with people and being the village asshole anyway. However, I’m digressing.
Many a customer will verbally attack me, saying, “Why not Merry Christmas? It’s Christmas!” Let me respond with a few questions of my own. What about the other holidays? What about the other religions? What about, most importantly, the people who don’t give a damn about these days? Do we just ignore them because they don’t celebrate Christmas? I have some advice for the people lobbying for the whole “It’s Merry Christmas” side of this argument. Please, for the love of all things pleasant and vacation-oriented, STOP BITCHING. When I found out that Square-Enix was releasing another installment of Dragon Quest Monsters–formerly known as Dragon Warrior Monsters in the US due to issues of trademarks–was coming out, and on the DS, I was ecstatic. I remembered spending hours on end raising critters, breeding them into stronger critters and, finally, using my Gameshark to cheat like crazy after I beat the game (I’m not lying; merely altering the truth to the point of fabrication) and looked forward to Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker to arrive for the DS. This was only reinforced when I purchased Phantom Hourglass, played a bit, and then discovered that the people at Nintendo were too busy rubbing their bags of cash all over one another to notice that repetitious, obnoxious, and unnecessary tasks don’t equate to quality gaming. I’d strongly suggest taking a look at the Zero Punctuation review for a better idea.
Moving right along, I swooped down on DQM:J like a hawk on a gimped rabbit and, if this says anything about it, I proceeded to play it for almost twenty-four hours in a matter of two days. Two days. However, as much as it pains me to admit, it’s hardly a god-send of gaming like I had hoped it to be.

It’s easy to see, for anyone who has been on the Internet within the past month or so, how popular Valve’s (The) Orange Box is. As someone who has never played Half-Life, I had some difficulty figuring out why people were so damn excited about a game whose title could be broken down to a type of fruit and a cube. Yes, I’m well aware that Half-Life 2: Episode 2 being released with it’s previous installments included is a God-send for newcomers to the series like me, but what really had me curious was Portal. I’ve been on a major anime and manga binge for the past few months, almost literally burning my paycheck in order to sate my desire for Japanese goodies. Many would label me a Japanophile for this, but that’s really steering this in a completely different direction than the one it’s meant to be going in.
Around New Year’s, apparently a good friend of mine got interested in the series Naruto. Anyone who is familiar with some anime or manga knows that Naruto is, in fact, one of the most watched/read series. It’s also easy to make an observation that people will either love the show or hate the show, after giving it a chance. Some people hate it simply on principle because, well, so many people like it.
