If you were a soldier in Iraq, in a hospital after suffering injuries from an attack and were told that you would either save your finger, OR the wedding ring that was on it, which would you save?
Doctors were preparing to cut off [Marine Lance Cpl. David] Battle’s ring to save as much of his finger as they could.
“But that would mean destroying my wedding ring,” he said. “My wife is the strongest woman I know. She’s basically running two people’s lives since I’ve been gone. I don’t think I could ever repay her or show her how grateful … how much I love my wife, my soul mate.”
Call me selfish, but I’d save the damn finger! If she were truly that strong, she’d understand that we’d maybe need to make another trip to the jewelry store when I get back.
By the way, the story goes on to say they lost the ring anyway. Now THAT really sucks.
