My optimism for the human condition is all but gone.

looting

Okay.

I understand that these people are desperate.

I understand that these people are frustrated, and stuck in horrid, squallid conditions.

I understand the survival instinct is kicking in. I can even condone looting IF it’s for the absolute necessities, like drinkable water, food and medicine.

I know for a fact that if I were in those conditions, I would get pretty hysterical, myself.

But shooting at the people who are trying to get you the hell out?!

Threatening rescuers’ lives, when they’re trying to save yours?!

Do they understand that even though they’re angry that evacuations aren’t going fast enough, this type of behavior is only to delay things further?

A man shooting his own sister fatally in the head, over a bag of ice?

People, WTF?!?!

We’ve gone beyond understandable panic to incomprehensible madness. It’s like people WANT to die, even when faced with the prospect of eventual rescue. It’s the only way I can explain why anyone would want to threaten the very people trying to save them, kill their own family members, and have no care at all for the eventual consequences they may face, IF they haven’t ruined their own chances of getting out.

  1. Hi, I’d like a nice, steaming hot cup of irony and a dumbass biscuit, if you’d be so kind.

Heh heh. The people of New Orleans should’ve known two things. One, they lived below sea-level and were damned to have something like this happen eventually. It’s common sense. And two, that two notices to get the hell out before the hurricane laid waste to their homes should’ve been more than sufficient to get everyone out of there. There is no pity for the stupid from me.

Terribly sorry for being so cold-hearted, I just can’t stand human loss via the aid of stupidity. It’s like the Darwin Awards on a larger scale.
