The State of the Union address didn’t hold any interest for me because of what was said by the ol’ baffoon up front, but rather what happened behind the scenes. Because it would appear that the current and real state of the union is this:
1. al-Qaeda despises our way of life, our meddling into their affairs, our complacency, and our embracing of freedom.
2. So, rather than have al Qaeda fight to take it away from us, the Bush administration has worked to pre-emptively revoke the constitutional freedoms we hold dear. Bush beat you to it, so take that, you dirty rebels!
Take for instance, a li’l thing we used to call Freedom of Speech. Doesn’t exist anymore, sadly. because, all someone has to do is remove their sweater and reveal a shirt with a political message on it, and they’re hauled away. Suuure, there’ll be an uproar from the left afterwards but all that has to happen is someone comes out and sheepishly apologizes for the mistreatment, and everyone’s mollified and complacent about the loss of freedom again.
The terrorists HAVE won.
