“What? She’s white? Well then, it’s okay to insult her!”

Apparently a big brouhaha erupted when California’s Education Secretary called a six-year-old a “stupid, dirty girl” during some public relations function where he was visiting a school library. The moment word of the statement got out, all kinds of activist groups began calling for his resignation. And rightfully so, I’d say! I mean, who in their right mind would go insulting kids like that?

Well, it gets weirder. Apparently all of these government officials and civil rights groups got all up in arms over the statement because they believed that race was a factor when the insult was made. How dare this man call a black girl a “stupid, dirty girl?”

Well, then they found out what the girl looked like…

… and now all of sudden, everyone is backing off and essentially saying it was okay that the insult was made. After all, according to one of the California assemblymen who intially led the charge for the man’s resignation, “It should be noted that race is not a factor in this issue… It is time for us to move on.”

Okay… so if a girl is African-American and made to bear this insult, it’s an atrocity. But if the girl is white, it’s perfectly okay to call her stupid and dirty? What am I missing here?
