Stowing away on aircraft = a bad idea

Stowing away on a plane is just a bad idea. Especially since access to the passenger cabin of a plane is tightly controlled, and the only place TO stowaway on most commercial jets are the exterioir nooks and crannies, such as the landing gear. And stowing away in the landing gear is a bad, bad idea:

Pam Hearne heard “a very loud bang” outside her family’s South Floral Park house at 7a.m., but thought little of it and went to work.

It wasn’t until she got back home at 10:30 a.m. that she noticed something bizarre out her window.

“There was a human body part back there,” she said. “It was rather large.”

The leg, hip and chunk of torso apparently fell from the wheel well of a South African jetliner about to land at Kennedy Airport.

“Los Simpsons” to become “El Sucko?”

As a labor dispute brews in Mexico over voice actors, the Spanish-language dub of “the Simpsons” is about to undergo a jarring change: all of the voice actors who dubbed the Simpsons voices in Spanish are being replaced.

“Los Simpson,” as the series is called in Spanish, has been a huge success throughout Latin America. The big question now is how viewers will react to an entirely new cast of voice actors for the coming season in July.

“I’m deeply disappointed because we did such quality work and now they’re using other people,” said Humberto Velez, who had been doing the voice of Homero Simpson for 15 years. “Every one of us has given personality to the characters and that’s because we loved what we were doing.”

The original cast, represented by Mexico’s National Actors Assn., or ANDA union, went on strike in February. But the labor feud dates back to September when Mexico City dubbing firm Grabaciones y Doblajes Internacionales started hiring “independents,” claimed Laura Torres, president of ANDA’s dubbing commission.

While this would mean nothing to most of the english-speaking audience that reads this, I imagine the show’s success in the US would come to a screeching halt if the dubbing cast we are familiar with were let go, and replaced with an entirely different group. “D’Oh!” just wouldn’t be the same.

(And conrary to popular belief, the English-language voice actors of the Simpsons have been the same ones for each character from the beginning… even Homer’s. Homer’s demeanor may have changed from the early abusive jerk to a stupid affable one, but the same actor voiced both.)

Apple finally admits it screwed up on something!

Well, it appears Apple has finally be forced to admit it screwed up! Those of you who own older Apple iPod music players may be eligible for a $50 voucher and an extended warranty from Apple, over issues with the iPod’s rechargeable and not-user-serviceable battery.

From USAToday:

According to the terms of the settlement, people who fill out a claim form are entitled to receive $50 redeemable toward the purchase of any Apple products or services except iTunes downloads or iTunes gift certificates. They can redeem the voucher within 18 months of final settlement approval at any bricks-and-mortar Apple Store or online.

Consumers who had battery troubles can also get their battery or iPod replaced through the lawsuit.

Apple currently replaces or repairs defective products that are returned within one year but the class-action settlement extends the warranty to two years, plaintiffs’ lawyers said.
