They Never Stop Spending for You

verizon h2

The Verizon test geek is gonna be stylin’ now in his new set of wheels. This high cell rates that Verizon Wireless users pay every month went to a good use: the purchase of a fleet of Verizon Wireless Hummer H2’s.

So, next time you get a dropped or blocked call with Verizon, or end up in a bad service area, remember: they could have devoted a little more money on improving the network, but they gotta pay to fill those gas tanks!

His mother was quite frigid…

ice

A shooting and subsequent police standoff unfolded into the grizly discovery of a woman who was frozen in a block of ice for four years, while her son allegedly collected her social security checks.

Philip Schuth, 52, told police his elderly mother, Edith, died of natural causes in August 2000, but that he didn’t tell anyone because he was afraid police would blame him, according to documents filed in court Monday.

He said his mother years beforehand was attacked by a cat and her blood was on the walls in the house they shared, and he feared police would think he killed her, according to the documents.

Police recovered a chest-type freezer in Schuth’s basement, and after chipping away at a block of ice, discovered a human knee.

Reading the reports, you can easily tell the guy is an all-around nutcase.

A likely story

Naturally, the new pope wants to endear himself to the flock of sheep he now leads, and his personality and past really don’t do that very well for him. So what better way to soften up his personality than to claim reluctance in his new post?

Speaking in his native German, Benedict told the audience that during the conclave, or papal election, when it became clear he was getting many votes, a cardinal passed him a note reminding him what he had preached about Christ calling Peter to follow him even if he was reluctant to go.

Benedict, 78, said he hoped to spend his last years living quietly and peacefully.

“At a certain point, I prayed to God ‘please don’t do this to me,”‘ he recalled. “Evidently, this time He didn’t listen to me.”

Oh, boo-hoo. I’m sooo buying this story that someone with such a control-freak background didn’t really want to be the de facto leader of one of the largest Christian sects in the world, effectively directing not just the minds of Catholics, but influencing global political policy as well (and imposing by proxy a more conservative tact even on us heathens). And if this PR story happens to liken him to a biblical saint, well, all the better and covenient for him, right?

The forecast for the NWS: hazy

Apparently, the likes of Accuweather and other commercial weather service providers have lobbied Congress to limit the amount of data that the National Weather Service makes available to the general public. The bill, if passed, would pretty much wipe out everything the NWS does for the public except for only “life threatening events” like hurricanes and storms.

Santorum made similar arguments April 14 when introducing his bill. He also said expanded federal services threaten the livelihoods of private weather companies.

“It is not an easy prospect for a business to attract advertisers, subscribers or investors when the government is providing similar products and services for free,” Santorum said.

Uhh, well see, that’s the problem. Have these SEEN the Accuweather website? I’m not linking it because the amount of pop up ads and other crap that appear on these stupid sites is absurd! Weather forecasts, whether it about severe weather or not, is an important essential service, and I should be free to choose if I want to see that data with OR without a ton of popup ads and other useless clutter, thanks.

eriously, if you’ve used Accuweather, Weather.com or Intellicast before, give the NWS a try. The forecasts are far superior to anything I’ve seen on commercial ad-driven sites, and there’s no spammy clutter. It’s a shame people actually want this done away with.
