As long as I’ve been using Firefox, it seemed like development of this great web browser would never get to version 1.0. For almost a year, it seemed like development hovered in the range of 0.7, 0.8, 0.9… then the painfully slow march of 0.9.1, 0.9.2, 0.9.3, and 0.9.4 (which only existed for Windows, and then only briefly before it became “0.9.3 build 20040804”).
Finally now, it seems like Firefox developers are ready to release something they can call 1.0… almost.
The preview release candidate of 1.0 is finally out, and can be downloaded here. Although Microsoft asserts their Internet Explorer browser is more secure than in the past with XP Service Pack 2, I’d still have to say that I like the features of Firefox enough to warrant using it over IE. If you’re a hard core IE user, it will take some time to get acquainted, but it’s definitely worth it. Even though 1.0 isn’t officially “1.0” yet, it’s still more stable than IE, in my opinion.
