Wired Online tells the story of Mary Hodder, a contributor for napsterization.org, and apparent technophile to the ultimate power, and then tries – in vain, in my opinion – to equate her life to what’s ahead for all of us. Honestly, her tale vexes me. Is she ultimately with it, horribly chained to technology, or just a technogeek bafoon without a clue?
Even in a car, on a train or sidewalk she carries on simultaneous conversations with friends, associates, clients and business contacts via e-mail, instant messaging and talking on her cell phone. And while she refers to the material world as old-style “analog,” the internet is strictly “digital.”
All right, someone has fallen off the clue wagon. The real world is old-style analog? No, dear, you’ve just shown the real world that you don’t know what “analog” means. Allow me to enlighten:
Unfortunately, the word “analog” was co-opted and accepted years ago. Raging against the machine of linguistic evolution might be rather tiring. 🙂 But I can respect your purism.
I guess you’re right. I wonder what Jeffrey would have to say about it though. 🙂
