Recording industry shows its charity, but lack of new creativity

In a remarkable show of its lack of inspiration, the recording industry is set to release a track to aid tsunami victims. The track? “We Are the World,” which incidentally, celebrates its 20th anniversary on Friday.

Clearly, the recording industry has so little working creativity these days that it had to trout out an old horse to get good, charitable PR.

And for what it’s worth, the recording session of “We Are the World” wasn’t without its lack of altruism, either:

While participants were all admonished to “check their egos at the door,” the recording session at A&M Studios in Hollywood was not without its tensions.

A manager for one of the artists complained that “the rockers don’t care for the song that much and they don’t want to stand next to the non-rockers,” co-organizer Kragen recounted. “They felt it was going to hurt their credibility.”

How nice.

Why web advertising still doesn’t work

Aside from the fact that the revenue generated by Google’s AdSense program would be rather miniscule, and because I wouldn’t be happy with the aesthetics of ads on this page, there’s another reason why i haven’t bothered being an AdSense client: click fraud.

Yet another reason why the ‘net is such a seedy place, and why sometimes I think people should probably be licensed before they can use the ‘net (no real tests, but if you do something enormously stupid, spam or click-bomb someone, then the license gets revoked).
