Why are people stupid?

1. If the Blessed Mother wanted to send a message, she would probably choose a better venue than a grilled cheese sandwich to do it on.

2. Grilled cheese sandwiches should not last for 10 years without mold. Even if the Blessed Mother has put her likeness on it. Even if 10 years is the true age of that half-eaten piece of bread and cheese, it’s not a miracle… it’s just Velveeta.

3. I don’t care how nutty you are, you DO NOT bid $14,400 $15,300 $7,600 (guess we had some bid retractions… big surprise) for an alleged 10-year-old grilled cheese sandwich with the Blessed Mother allegedly on it! Especially if you’re uber religious!

And his sense of humor sucks, too!

The White House was in for the corniest Thanksgiving ever, as Bush decided to make this year’s turkey pardoning an election year parody.

The speech was so horrifically bad I’m not not even going to blockquote any of it. If you must, read it here. And be sure to follow the laugh track… Bush doesn’t like it when no one laughs at his prepared jokes.

In his defense though, the whole turkey pardoning bit in itself is corny, no matter who’s in office. What do we care if the White House decided turkey wasn’t for them this year, again?

turkey

That’s right, Dubyah. Wring that bird’s neck. Pretend it’s Kerry.

On a lighter note, what the hell do they eat at the White House if they’re pardoning turkeys every Thanksgiving? I’m sorry, but if I were ever elected (and we know that’ll never happen, so don’t worry, the country is safe from me), I’d be chopping that bird up and tossin it in the oven myself. Screw pardoning, if I’m stuck in a heavily guarded house with a 4-year lease on it, on a stupid holiday with people who bore me to death, and I’m hungry, then damnit, some prime white meat Butterball better be heaped on my damn plate!

Rule #1 of Blogging: blogging and work don’t mix!

It seems more and more people are getting fired for content they produce while running a blog. Now, the latest high-profile blog-related firing is the Diary of a Flight Attendant. After posing for pictures on her uniform and posting them to her blog, Ellen Simonetti was fired by Delta:

“In the past, people expected flight attendants to be young and attractive,” Simonetti, a 29-year old blonde, said from her home in Austin, Texas. “Maybe I represent the flight attendants of the past.”

But it is Simonetti’s very 21st-century activities that she says prompted Delta management to ground her, suspending her from flying in September and then firing her a month later.

The photos posted were apparently provocative (though not obscene), so Delta may actually be somewhat warranted in doing this. But this is a warning to those of us who run blogs: keep work out of it, or risk the unfortunate and often misguided wrath of the people who sign your paycheck.

By the way, Delta sucks! I’m all for pay for performance type arrangements, but having your peers evaulate your job performance, instead of a supervisor? That’s just asking to bring workplace politics and coworkers with axes to grind to a whole new level.
