Godwin’s law proven, in Congress!

Godwin’s Law used to be a phenomenon that was often thought to be confined to online places of discussion, such as usenet. But it looks like it just played itself out in Congress:

Byrd cited Hitler’s 1930s rise to power by, in part, pushing legislation through the German parliament that seemed to legitimize his ascension.

“We, unlike Nazi Germany or Mussolini’s Italy, have never stopped being a nation of laws, not of men,” Byrd said. “But witness how men with motives and a majority can manipulate law to cruel and unjust ends.”

Voom won’t die?

Well, this is damned irregular.

Apparently, the shutdown of VOOM! satellite service has caused a huge boardroom upheaval at Cablevision, with three directors getting the boot after making the decision to close the DBS provider, in spite of the chairman’s favoring the company as his pet project. What’s more, even though the official Voom! website is still shuttered, Voom is still taking orders from new customers as if nothing was wrong if you call their 800 number (1-800-GET-VOOM), and Cablevision Chairman, Charles Dolan, is trying to buy the company’s remaining assets, apparently to keep it operating.

The interesting thing is that a deal to sell Voom’s broadcast satellite to EchoStar has pretty much been sealed. So what exactly will Voom be broadcasting from, if it continues to exist as a company?

Also: the SEC doesn’t seem to be happy with the way Cablevision swiftly moved to shut down the satellite operation and is investigating. Fun fun fun.

Static-X update: Tripp Eisen is out.

tripp eisen

It would appear that Static-X (rightfully) didn’t want an accused sexual predator in the group, and has parted ways with guitarist Tripp Eisen (aka Tod R Salvador) over his alleged recent exploits.

Story also here:

“Static-X has parted ways with guitarist Tripp Eisen, effective immediately,” the act’s brief statement read. “Tripp is currently dealing with personal issues that prohibit him from being able to fulfill his commitment to the band.”
